Ever wanted to enjoy an actual cross-country, good old-fashioned car rally? You'll get your chance to be a part of this year's GREAT RACE when it rolls into Perrysburg on June 21st for a pitstop on its way from Rhode Island to North Dakota headed west to the Finish Line. And we're throwing a Pit Stop Party presented by Mercy Health, in the Historic District in Perrysburg just for the occasion! Let's show these Great Racers some good old 419 hospitality!
Racers will be traveling north on SR 199 from Rte 6, and we'd love to line the berms of the road with well-wishers, posters, and encouraging cheers as they travel past. The Great Race participants should be arriving on the south side of Perrysburg Township before 4pm and then they'll make their way to our Pit Stop Party!
Join us as the 130 racers take a pit stop for the night. Racers will arrive around 4:30pm, so we're kicking off the festivities at 4:30pm with an Arrival Ceremony on Louisiana Avenue by the tracks and then watch & cheer as racers arrive, enjoy live music from Johnny Rodriguez (from 5-7pm on Second and Louisiana), our very own (local) classic car show on Commodore Lawn at the corner of Louisiana and East Indiana Ave (thanks to Rick Ruffner at O'Deer Diner!) and there'll be tons of fun, food, and SO many cars to explore, ask questions, and don't forget to take photos. The KID ZONE sponsored by Yark Auto on Second Street will have free inflatables for ages 10 and under, and there's also free face painting (by The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio), a super fun Photo Opp by Sign Gypsies 419 (be sure to tag us in your posts!), Street Artistry (by Jaydon's Circus), Historical Celebrities being planned (by the Perrysburg Area Historical Museum/Spafford House Museum), an interactive experience by our friends at Safe Communities of Wood County, and much more!
Pun Intended: CHECK OUT what Way Public Library is doing:
For the Grown-Ups: 2:00pm and 5:00pm showing of the movie "The Great Race" in the Mercy Family Activity Center
For the Kiddos (all ages welcome): at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30pm - Family Drive-In Movie: children and caregivers will create their very own car, followed by snacks, and a showing of "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" - all supplies will be provided.
The racers are being provided a "Taste of Perrysburg" tent dinner (a private event for the racers and their crew, with an exceptionally generous donation by Lamplight Cafe/Extra Virgin Catering Services, beverage and dessert service by Maddie & Bella Coffee Roasters, and tabletop charcuterie curated by Social Rind Co.) while the public can enjoy dining at one of the many incredible eateries in the downtown, or partake in the food truck line-up nearby including some fan-favorites like Deet's BBQ, The Loaded Chicken, Eric's Ice Cream Factory, and Sweet Nate's Coffee. Thanks to Yark Auto, the drivers will have mechanic's bays at their disposal for any unforeseen auto issues.
SHUTTLE SERVICE: In collaboration with Yark Auto, Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, and Perrysburg Schools, we're excite to announce a FREE shuttle service from the Perrysburg Jr. Hi parking lot to/from the Historic District. Look for the SHUTTLE signs and await your departure from the Loading Zone; they run every twenty (20) minutes. Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home will also allow parking at their Perrysburg location, just a short stroll from the activities.
Racers and their pit crew & guests are staying at many of our beautiful Perrysburg hotels for the night, then departing the next morning for the next leg of The Great Race from the Levis Commons parking lot.
Be sure to join us Tuesday, June 21st in the Historic District for a fun Pit Stop Party before they roll out of town!
